The United States Army conducted the first European live-fire demonstration of the Spike Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) missile from the AH-64E v6 Apache Guardian attack helicopter in Poland.
During the exercise, helicopters from the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade successfully struck maritime targets up to 25 km away, demonstrating the platform’s capability to conduct precision strikes beyond line of sight. The event, held at the Ustka Air Training Base, included international observers and technical support from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.
The integration of the Spike NLOS significantly extends the Apache’s strike range, more than tripling that of the Hellfire missile. The European test confirms the maturity of the integration process and showcases the helicopter’s potential in maritime and high-risk scenarios, while also reinforcing multinational cooperation in precision strike capabilities, with representatives from over ten allied countries in attendance.
Poland, which is set to receive 96 AH-64Es in the coming years, is already training its crews on leased US Army Apache D helicopters.
The use of the Spike NLOS positions Poland among the top Apache operators in Europe and strengthens its collective defense and deterrence capabilities on NATO’s eastern flank. Military authorities highlighted that missile integration will enable long-range engagements against both land and sea targets, becoming a central element of Poland’s future fleet and enhancing collaboration between US and Polish forces in developing advanced strike capabilities.
